2020 Trend Analysis

I took a look at three different brands. Topshop, Halogen, and Madewell. I noticed some similar colors and patterns throughout each brand. Some of the colors included light shades of pink, green and yellow. Some of the similar patterns were floral and plaid. A few of the brands had blazers with similar silhouettes as well. All three brands were unique from each other because they all represented their brand identity. It was cool to see how three different brands could share trending styles.

Topshop:

Topshop originates from London and represents street style and everything fashion. Their brand emphasizes diversity and individuality in a way that represents our culture. I believe that their target market is young women from 16 to late 20s who have an interest in fashion and can afford higher-priced items. I was at Nordstrom during the evening time between 8-9 and it was not busy at all. This section of the shop was not busy at all, there was one other customer besides me. There was one employee at the counter. The mood was upbeat and overall welcoming.

The clothing from Topshop reminds me of all the fashion bloggers/influencers on Instagram who are constantly posting trendy outfits. I love this brand and I wear their clothing very often. There were a lot of street style/business casual looks and they were amazing. This store is very on-trend. The mood was urban and trendy and it represents the street style element of the brand extremely well. The lighting fixtures and the clothing racks in the form of geometric shapes completely represented the essence of the brand.

The products were a mix of flowy dresses, blazers, long sleeve tops, light, and medium wash denim, flowy skirts and tops and handbags. This vendor is definitely on-trend. Some of their trendy items included biscay green handbags and blazers, puff sleeve dresses and tops and floral patterned pieces.

Halogen:

This brand provides affordable outfits that can transition from work to weekend looks. It consists of lots of basics and statement pieces that are essential in your wardrobe. This brand combines trendy pieces with classics. I think that the target market is ages 20-35. The clothing is youthful yet sophisticated with a blend of trendy pieces.

There were a couple of employees who were floating around the different sections of Nordstrom but there was not anyone specifically in the section where Halogen is located. The mood of the shop was low-key/contemporary with some trendy infusions. It reflected the brand and product very well between the displays and the lighting fixtures, the mood was set well.

The mix of products included handbags, sweaters, flowy tops, blazers, dress shirts, and dress pants. This vendor is very on-trend. Some of the trends included tweed blazers which are coming back, and floral tops, dresses and dress shirts.

Madewell:

The product mix consisted of lots of light and medium wash denim, sneakers, flowy tops, basic tees, jackets, sweaters, and handbags. This vendor is on-trend. Some of the trendy pieces included flowy tops, anorak jackets, and scarlet colored pieces.

Madewell represents all things denim. Their brand focuses on what to style and accessorize with your Madewell denim. I think their target market is guys and girls between the ages of 16 and 30. The clothing is young and vibrant and relatable to our generation. The shop wasn’t busy. I was there at night and there was one associate on the floor in that section. She was very polite and informed me to let her know if I needed anything from her. The mood was chill and laid back. I think it represented the brand because the overall design was cool and contemporary and those are the sorts of styles and vibes that our generation tends to gravitate towards.

Overall, the current trends I observed were pieces that were scarlet red, biscay green and bright yellow. I also noticed lots o

f floral patterned styles throughout, tweed textured fabrics, and light and medium wash denim.
