My experience with creating a capsule wardrobe set

Creating a capsule wardrobe in college

I am currently in the process of creating a capsule wardrobe and I'm really excited because I'm indulging into the minimalist lifestyle even more and I am so excited to see where this goes. I recently watched a video on Youtube from a personal stylist named Christie Ressel and she has inspired me to attempt to create one of my own. Of course, I already had clothes in my closet so I am going to start with those, but I was on a mission to get some basics for summer that are essential. I want to enhance my wardrobe and I will definitely be able to achieve that by making a capsule wardrobe.

To reiterate what Christie talked about, basically, an easy way to make one is by breaking each set of clothing into "modules" but in my case, I like to call them sets! Here's how each set looks:

-Outer Layer

-3 Tops

-2 Bottoms

With just those 6 items, it's possible to create 6-12 different outfits, unbelievable right? I didn't believe it myself until I saw it with my own two eyes!

If you wanted to create another set, all you have to do is repeat the first module. And as a result, you would have 2 outer layers, 6 tops, and 4 bottoms. And with 12 total pieces, you can create 48-72 outfits. You can even go so far as to triple the original amount by having 3 outer layers, 9 tops, and 6 bottoms with the potential to create 162-216 freaking outfits! Crazy right?

Basics are what make this wardrobe so evolutionary because as long as you have those, any kind of outfit is possible! Using neutrals is a good idea as well so that all of the clothes blend well together. It's also important to have variety in your wardrobe, so I would definitely encourage you to add a splash of color to your wardrobe or throw in some prints.

And don't forget to accessorize, my favorite! You can give each of your outfits a totally new look when you use accessories in different ways. It will completely tie your outfit together and make you stand out. I especially love earrings and necklaces because there are so many unique ones out there.

Here are 10 looks that I have been able to create within my new capsule wardrobe:

Making a capsule wardrobe was so worth it to me because I value the clothes that I have in my closet more and I put more effort into what I wear every day! Creating a wardrobe like this gets me one step closer to a style that will last! I definitely think that this is beneficial for anyone who loves fashion but wants to live a more minimalist lifestyle.
